What to Do in Costa Rica (Beyond Surfing)

What to Do in Costa Rica

Although many people come to the country specifically to visit a Costa Rica surf camp, this amazing country in Central America has a wealth of other exciting activities to enjoy. In this article, we’ll discuss some great Costa Rica activities you can choose from that may perfectly complement surfing and other water sports.

Popular activities for Costa Rica vacations include visits to national parks like the Manuel Antonio National Park. Despite being one of the smallest national parks in Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio remains a perennial favorite thanks to its unspoiled scenery, diverse landscapes, an incredible variety of wildlife, magnificent waterfalls, and gorgeous beaches.

Some of the top things to do in the Manuel Antonio and Dominical area include horseback riding, nature hiking, bird watching, and discovering some of the secret beaches that lie along the coast. The rivers in the area are great for activities like canoeing and white water rafting along the Guabo, Savegre, Naranjo, and Cotos Brus Rivers, including Class III and Class IV rapids suitable for experienced rafters.

This part of Costa Rica also home to the magnificent Nauyacan Waterall, the perfect spot to enjoy some swimming in the middle of one of the most pristine areas in the country. The waterfall also has its own built-in natural water slide, making it a great way to cool off on a hot day.

And while Costa Rica surfing remains the most popular activity to enjoy on the water, other options include using a kayak or stand-up paddleboard to explore the hidden estuaries, rivers, and coastal wetlands along the Pacific Coast of the country. By using a kayak or stand-up paddleboard, visitors can silently enter this ecological wonderland to see a kaleidoscope of colorful plants, birds, and animals that are found nowhere else in Costa Rica.

Many Costa Rica tours also include less adrenaline-fueled activities that take advantage of the country’s lush natural beauty. Activities such as enjoying a massage on the beach or taking a yoga class are great ways to center your mind, body, and spirit while holistically connecting with the pristine natural world found in Costa Rica.

Yet more complementary options include visiting a natural hot spring to enjoy bathing in the mineral-rich waters, practicing your Spanish with locals, or visiting a local village in order to sample some delicious Costa Rican food.

Costa Rica is home to world-class surfing spots, but there’s a lot of other amazing things to see and do.
